Nose Plastic Surgery

It’s a common scenario; a teen breaks their nose while playing athletics. Someone with frequent sinus complications feels hopeless because they constantly struggle to breathe clearly through their nose. An individual born with an uneven or larger than average nose walks around feeling self-conscious about it day in and day out. For millions of people, nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is a viable way to correct either medical conditions or the aesthetic contours of the nose.

The types of patients seen and are just as varied as the reasons individuals choose nose surgery. Some of the most typical reasons for rhinoplasty are blocked nasal passageways, nose injuries, genetic nasal abnormalities, cancer removal and a desire to change the aesthetics of the external nose.

What is Nose Surgery?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that can shorten or lengthen the nose, change its contour, the tip and the nostrils. The new shape is achieved by modifying or shaving down bone and cartilage. Each patient is very unique and during a thorough consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon at the Core Dermatology patients can determine what the surgery can achieve for them.

What are the treatment options?

Surgery is typically performed inside of the nasal cavity, where the surgeon will use any number of methods, from augmenting the nasal bone and harvesting cartilage, to grafting bone from other areas of the ear or nose. Depending on the amount of work needed, some patients will go home that day and others will need to stay overnight.* With operation and recovery time varying from patient to patient, it is extremely important to follow the post operative guidelines given during a consultation.

What else should I know?

Post-operative bruising and swelling is common and under the supervision and counsel of the plastic surgeon patients can expect to be given realistic projected results. Setting realistic goals for results helps patients during their recovery process as results can be seen for 6 to 12 months after.*

All surgical procedures require an initial consultation. For more information or to schedule your appointment please call Core Dermatology at 888-970-7546.
