The struggle to remove hair can be frustrating at best. Painful and tedious methods such as waxing, shaving and tweezing yield temporary results and can leave skin irritated. Today, the experts at the Soderstrom Skin Institute are pleased to offer advanced laser technology services in combination with other methods to treat those coping with stubborn hair removal.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is the only process proven to provide long term removal of unwanted hair. The most commonly targeted areas of the body are the chin, upper lip, under arms, legs and bikini line. During this process a laser beam passes through the skin into each individual hair follicle, damaging the follicle and inhibiting future hair growth*.

What are the treatment options?

The average patient needs several treatments as well as visits for periodic upkeep. The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient and depends upon each individual’s response to the process. Typically, patients with a combination of light skin and dark hair respond best to the laser treatments.  Those with darker skin can attempt laser hair removal, but in certain instances the laser has been known to affect the melanin of the skin. Laser hair removal does not successfully treat white, blond, or gray hair and medical experts continue to investigate new processes to treat patients with lighter hair.

Other treatments include:

  • Waxing
  • Depilatories
  • Electrolysis
  • Shaving
  • Vaniqa-a® prescription cream that blocks hair growth enzyme
